Attendance |
Regular attendance and punctuality are important. Excessive absences result in poor school work. When an absence is necessary, the parent or guardian should notify the school. If this is not done, the school secretary will phone home to determine the whereabouts of the student. Notes are required for early dismissal and after an illness (unless you call). For the safety of your children, no children will be released without a written request or a prior phone call. They will also not be released to anyone not listed as a contact for them so please make sure we have current contact information on file at the school. If you have an absence to report please use the SchoolMessenger system. As part of our Safe Schools Plan, there is a sign out book at the office. When a child is brought in to school after 8:55 AM and or picked up prior to 3:25 PM, the adult accompanying the child must notify the office. If your child is permitted to leave the school at lunch it is important that they have a note from a parent and that they sign out and then in again at the office. When dropping off your child for school at the start of the school day or picking them up at the end of the school day please meet them outside at their designated door. For the safety of everyone in our building ALL parents & visitors are REQUIRED to report to the office to sign in and out. For more information regarding Attendance procedures please visit the "Attendance FAQs" and "Attendance Reporting" pages under the "PARENTS" tab.

Tree Nut/Peanut Free School |
Westmount is a TREE NUT/PEANUT SAFE SCHOOL. Tree Nut/Peanut Safe includes all areas inside the building as well as outside the building on school property. Within our school community there are several students who have a potentially life-threatening allergy (anaphylaxis) to foods, predominantly peanuts and tree nuts. Tree nuts include such items as pistachios, walnuts, almonds, cashews, macadamia nuts and all additional nuts grown on trees. The best way to reduce the risk of accidental exposure to these students is to respectfully ask for the cooperation and support of parents and caregivers within this school community. Please do not send peanut butter or products with peanuts/nuts listed in the ingredients, in your child’s lunch. It is also Board Policy to refrain from sending items such as peanut alternative products (such as WOW butter), due to the inability in distinguishing between these products and true peanut products. Your cooperation and understanding are appreciated |
Medication at School |
Prescription medication cannot be administered at school without an authorization form signed by the physician and parent. These forms are updated each year. Please contact the school immediately if your child requires medication during school hours. The well-being and safety of all students depend on adherence to this Board policy. |

Cell Phones & Electronic Devices |
All members of the school community must: Respect the need of others to work in an environment that is conducive to learning and teaching, including by ensuring that cell phones and other personal mobile devices are used only during instructional time (as directed by an educator), for health and medical purposes and/or to support special education needs. http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/parents/cellphone-mobile-devices.html#review1

Personal Property |
The school cannot accept responsibility for items brought from home. Therefore students should leave valuable items at home. A lost and found box is located in the lower foyer near the front doors, as well as the upper foyer. Parents and students are invited to check this box at your convenience for lost items. Labelling clothing and shoes does help items be returned to their rightful owner. |
